The gingerbread man
Take pictures of you cooking and put them on the fridge/wall then you can sing the Gingerbread Man song too!
As a border for the photo, you could make a cut-out gingerbread man paper chain.
Older brothers and sisters could draw food from around the world

Make pretend pizzas with your children from paper plates,
Older ones could write some menus
Fruit and vegetable prints
Select a range of fruit and vegetables. Cut them in half
and use them for printing patterns and pictures. Once
dry, display these – include photographs of the different
fruit and vegetables you used.
There are a number of food related activities that can be brought in with these cooking activities:
- Shopping – a trip to a local supermarket or grocers gives children a chance to see and discuss a variety of foods
- Feeding the ducks or birds – talk about the food you’re giving the ducks, make some simple bird feeders.
- Picnic – make some sandwiches, fruit kebabs and so on, and enjoy a picnic in your outside area, or a local park
- Fruit and vegetable printing – fruit and vegetables are great for printing – use up any left-over ingredients, or cut up some extra ones just for this activity.They make a great
- When baking bread, make up some extra dough just for the children to play. It has a different texture from play dough and offers opportunities for discussion.
