Talk about the big pancake being a circle shape.

The pancake parlour, a role play activity

Cut out some cardboard circles of different sizes

Turn your front room or kitchen into a pancake parlour! 

Put in circular objects, such as dolly's plates, frying pans, cups, other round kitchen objects, the cut out cardboard pancakes and so on.

Take turns to be the ‘pancake chefs, then the customer. Buy and sell your different sized pancakes

Shape, a number activity

The circle 

Talk about circles. Use words such as ‘round’. Find a variety of different sized circles in the room together and put them on the table. Your "circle table"

Talk about their size and colour and the fact that they are all circles

Count your circles, count the little ones, count the big ones. Add other shapes to your table and mix them up. Play a game of "First to grab a circle..." How many did you win?

Make pancakes, recipe above

Use mathematical language, for example:

How many eggs have we cracked? Should we add more milk? Is yours bigger than mine? What shape is it? 

If you're feeling brave try to toss them!
